Apple TV+ has renewed the thrilling series Hijack for a second season – kind of surprising, but pleasant news! Get ready for all the details on what's in store for season 2, including the expected release date, the (returning?) cast and some intriguing theories about what might happen next.
Thanks to AppleTV and Hijack, flying has become even more unbearable for me. Now, it's not enough to be mildly irritated by the whole process of boarding a plane and having to sit with my thoughts for a few hours (I don't book WiFi on planes because I'm cheap, leave me alone), but now I also worry about being forced to deal with terrorists mid-air. Thanks a lot, AppleTV.
If Apple really wanted to ruin my day even more, they could keep up with the real-time approach in Hijack and bring my worst post-flight nightmare to the screens in the next season: seven hours, one baggage claim, and Sam Nelson's suitcase is nowhere in sight.
Hijack: The Baggage Claim Horror doesn't make for a thrilling sequel though, does it? Also, Hijack didn't really seem like a show that needed a second season. Still, here we are: Apple TV+ confirmed Sam Nelson is going to return and Hijack Season 2 has been greenlit.
We've gathered all the info for you about how that could turn out – when is it coming out? Who's going to be back? Which are vehicles are hijackable? Is that even where Apple TV+ is going with this? Fasten your seatbelts, let's dive in!
Will Idris Elba Return For Hijack Season 2?
According to Variety, Idris Elba isn't done with his role as negotiator Sam Nelson just yet. He'll not only reprise his role, but also serve as an executive producer on Hijack and join the creators Goerge Kay and Jim Field Smith behind the scenes.
Idris Elba is the only one from the first season's cast that's confirmed to return, but we're up to do some speculating. My money's on Christine Adams when it comes to returning faces – Marsha and Sam could have some things to talk about, right? Along with Adams, Max Beesley may come back as Marsha's boyfriend.
Keep in mind, we're just sharing theories right now. The plot is a well-guarded secret right now, but Idris Elba promises the thrill is still going to be there in season 2 of Hijack:
"It’s top secret what new situation unfolds for Sam Nelson, but I can assure you we will bring the high octane back!"
A secret makes speculation all the more fun, though. Here's what may be in store for Hijack.
What Could Hijack Season 2 Be About?
"If I had a nickel for every time I was on a vehicle that got hijacked, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't much, but it's weird that it happened twice." – Sam Nelson, someday? I don't think so.
Doing "the same thing but different" sometimes works quite well with other shows, but I don't see Sam Nelson doing another negotiation like that again – at least not in the situation we had in season one. Put him in a randomly hijacked bus and we'll have a problem, Apple.
What would make sense for Sam, though? Putting his skills to good use, of course! He obviously knows how to negotiate, and his talent is kind of wasted on business negotiations if he can literally save lives with his skills.
Turning Hijack into a show that doesn't follow the special-ops that barge into the bank to save victims in a robbery-gone-wrong, but instead the calm and collected dude that has to negotiate with criminals or downright psychopaths? I'd be down. More exciting than the baggage claim thing, right? And they could continue their real-time approach to Hijack, too. Am I onto something?
We'll see in time. At this point, that's just a shot in the dark – but I will be annoying if my theory turns out to be right. When's that gonna be, though?
Hijack Season 2: Expected Release Date
The news are fresh and Apple TV+ hasn't shared an official release date yet, so we'll have to continue with our shtick of speculating.
The first season took a little bit more than one year from production start to release in June 2023. If they keep up that pace and are about to jump right in, then Hijack's second season could hit as soon as spring 2025.
Our guess, though? It's going to take a little teeny-tiny bit longer. We're still confident 2025 is going to be Hijack's year, but our money is on a summer 2025 release. And if that's the case and Sam Nelson is negotiating with criminals for a living, proving my prediction right, you can watch me play the lottery.
