At the start of 2022 Riot promised a new and better battle pass system that would improve events. Now, for the LoL Worlds 2022 did they succeed in doing so? Fans aren't too sure.
League of Legends has one of the worst battle pass/event systems in all of gaming. That much is clear. Hell, even TFT and VALORANT have better battle pass systems, so someone at Riot must know how to make successful passes, right?
Well, at the start of 2022 we were promised improved myhtic content, as well as event systems. For the 2022 League of Legends World Championship event Riot rolled out their new battle pass, but fans are not impressed with it. Let's go over their complaints and then check what Riot had to say.
What Is the Problem with the Battle Pass?
To move along the battle pass players will have to gain event-experience which you will get by playing games and completing missions. Some of those missions can only be completed once, while others are repeatable. Okay nice, nothing has changed there from the previous system, right?
Well, when looking at the rewards you gain for the missions completed and points earned this event looks, at first glance, like more of a grind than before. After the mess that was the Star Guardian event this month we don't need that stress right now – especially when we're already stressing about T1 making it out of Group A.
Many players complained that you could only earn 5,850 XP by completing missions, but that isn't the whole picture. At least according to Riot, so let's check out how they responded to the concern of players.
Riot Responds to Battle Pass Concerns
On a Reddit thread where players were trying to figure out how much time they would have to invest into the battle pass, Developer Daniel "Rovient" Leaver came to the rescue making a few clarifications on the issue of the battle pass.
He explained that players could earn 10,000 XP through all the missions. When looking at the event page on the Riot website, not all event missions had been revealed, likely due to the final part of the event still being a mystery – but we know we're getting the K'Sante prestige skin at some point in the event shop.
So, there is no need to panic yet. This pass will even give free to play players an extra 100 tokens – granted this happens every Worlds pass though – so we are going to have to play through the pass before we pass judgment on the new system. Many players think that this issue is blown out of proportion.
