A leaker allegedly discovered a clue hinting at the future release of old PlayStation games on the PS5.
What wouldn't I do to play PS2 games like SSX Tricky, Dragon Quest VIII, or Shrek SuperSlam again on the PS5... Sometimes we're lucky, and some aging titles get remastered or remade for newer consoles, but most games remain only in our memories. A leaker claims to have found clues suggesting that Sony wants to change that.
Leaker Claims Sony Is Working On Bringing PS2 Games To The PS5
As it often happens with rumors and leaks, this story isn't quite as quickly told, and you shouldn't get excited too soon. A Twitter user named eXtas1stv made a discovery on the LinkedIn page of a company called "Implicit Conversions," which suggests that they work on bringing old games to newer consoles.

On the mentioned LinkedIn page, the following description of the company can be found now:
Currently, we are working with clients to bring NES, PS1, PSP, and PS2 games to the PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox. Some of our partners and publishers include Disney Interactive, Bandai Namco, Square Enix, Konami, Capcom, Team17, and Bend Studio. We've helped launch over 60 titles for the PlayStation Plus Premium subscription program, including The Legend of Dragoon, Ape Escape, Valkyrie Profile, Resident Evil, Tekken 2, and more.
The leaker, however, claims that there was a slightly more specific statement in the description before. Allegedly the original quote read: "Our clients include Sony Interactive Entertainment/PlayStation to bring PS1, PS2, and PSP games to PS4 and PS5. Our partners and publishers include Disney Interactive, Bandai Namco, Square Enix, Konami, Capcom, Team17, and Bend Studios."
Whether the whole thing was an unfortunate phrasing that didn't hold true and was therefore changed, or whether Implicit Conversion accidentally announced something that wasn't intended for the public remains unclear.
In the tweet of eXtas1stv, they mentioned that the developers of the well-known PS2 emulator PCSX2 are behind this entry, but this has already been denied by their Twitter account. However, it seems that it's former associates of the emulator project who are now working on updates for the games.
You can tell: Nothing is set in stone here. Of course, it would be phenomenal if we could really play old PS games on our state-of-the-art consoles again. But this leak leaves a lot of room for doubt. So maybe you'll have to stick with emulators for now. Unless they've been shut down.
