Despite concerning statements from Sony, there is hope for a release of Ghost of Tsushima 2 this year.
Ghost of Tsushima was a huge success in 2020. Sony's exclusive PlayStation title sold nearly 10 million copies and was honored with a series of awards, including prizes for best Art Direction and best Adventure Game of the Year.
While fans are still waiting for the PC port, their hopes for a full-sized sequel in 2024 were dashed by Sony Interactive Entertainment boss Hiroki Totoki, announcing that no major Sony franchise game releases are coming until April 2025. However, Business Insider Jeff Grubb has heard something different.
Sony Might Release Games From Established IPs This Year
The game designer and author Jeff Grubb caught the attention of Ghost of Tsushima fans with a tweet:
Yeah. And there are other unannounced games from established IPs.
— Grubb (@JeffGrubb) February 14, 2024
In reaction to a comment suggesting that at least two AAA titles from Sony would be released this year, his response indicated that "there are other unannounced games from established IPs."
So, there appear to be two statements that might contradict each other. However, even if Grubb's assertion is accurate, it's unclear whether he was alluding to Ghost of Tsushima 2. Therefore, it's best to approach this information with caution.
However, the community questioned whether the expression "any new major existing franchise titles" used by the Sony boss even applied to Ghost of Tsushima.

Since there has only been one title with this name so far, you could interpret the samurai RPG as a standalone. This interpretation would make Grubb's statement not contradictory to Sony's announcement.
In the end, all we can do is wait and keep our fingers crossed that the long-awaited sequel to Ghost of Tsushima will indeed arrive this year. We'll keep you updated.
