Speculations are rife as NieR: Automata fans eagerly anticipate news of a possible sequel. Recently, the game's creator Yoko Taro started dropping tantalizing hints about what could be in store for the beloved franchise.
The creator of NieR: Automata may have recently hinted at a possible sequel to the acclaimed action RPG during the Nier London Concert, while also further firing up speculation on Twitter/X at a later date.
NieR: Automata was developed by Platinum Games and published by Square Enix for PlayStation 4 and PC on March 7, 2017. In recent years, it has gained significant popularity through various media adaptations such as anime, novels, and live concerts. Nonetheless, fans eagerly await a sequel, and perhaps they may soon have reason to rejoice!
Mysterious Clues Hint At A NieR: Automata Sequel: Yoko Taro Sparks Hope Among Fans
The hint of a sequel comes from none other than Yoko Taro, the creator of NieR: Automata and the whole series, himself. Recently, he attended a NieR concert in London alongside Square Enix president Takashi Kiryu.
Reports suggest that after the concert concluded, Taro took to the stage and urged the audience to express their desire for a sequel to NieR: Automata through thunderous applause. The crowd responded with enthusiastic cheers, indicating their strong support for the idea.
To add to the intrigue, SanTheSly noted that during the performance, the word "REPENT" appeared repeatedly in the dialogue, with its final version spelled as "R3PENT" — reminiscent of the unique alphabet styling in NieR: Automata. This led to speculation on whether it could be a subtle hint about the development of a third mainline game in the NieR series.
Yoko Taro has further doubled down on teasing Nier 3 after the concert. On Twitter/X, he released a post that just reads "r3incarnationan", referencing the mobile-exclusive spin-off/sequel Nier: Reincarnation.

Again, we have a 3 replacing a letter here... if this doesn't hint towards a Nier 3, it's the meanest bit of trolling in a long time. Taro later posted a countdown on Twitter, reading "20 hours and 13 minutes". This was at first interpreted as a hint towards a possible reveal, but turned to be referring to the release of Reincarnation's last chapter. However, those two things might be connected.
While the prospect of a sequel to NieR: Automata remains purely speculative for now, the excitement among fans continues to grow as they eagerly await news or announcements from the team behind the game.
