The PlayStation 5 is one of the biggest consoles out there. But it's not the biggest. There's another that trumps it, being almost as big as a computer...
The Sony PlayStation 5 is a pretty big console. You'll have to make room under your television to fit the thing somewhere, but it's got a pretty nice aesthetic, which means most people don't actually feel bothered with its large size.
Well, while it is big, especially in comparison to other consoles like the Xbox Series S. it is not actually the biggest console out there. Oh no, one of the OG's is actually much bigger than the PS5.
Bigger Than The PS5 – This Console Takes The Cake
The old PlayStation 2-Dev-Kit – also named TOOL-PS2 – is one large beast, especially if you compare it to the actual size of a PlayStation 2. Even the PlayStation 5 is dwarfed by this giant beast of a console.
While both consoles seem to share the same height, that's about the only similarity between the two. The PS5 is around 11 centimeters thick, while the TOOL-PS2 is twice as thick. It's also got 16 centimeters more depth. Weight wise, the PS2-Dev-Kit managed 13 KG, while the PS5 is around 4. Pretty insane, eh?

The TOOL-PS2 wasn't any regular console on the market, though. This was the console for game developers, meaning there were a lot more features built into this massive console than the regular PlayStation 2. This means that there were multiple processors, hard drives built into it, which explains why it was so big.
The TOOL-PS2 had "Two halves" so to speak, with one half including a Linux-based PC with an Intel Core processor, while the other half held the PS2 chip. This meant that the console could work as a developmental PC, as well as a test PlayStation for developers.
While the PS2-Dev-Kit is massive with its own built in computer, its processing power is nothing compared to that of the PS5. Obviously. But it is still interesting to see just what the console was capable of back in the day.
