Dune 2 is still in theaters, but that doesn't mean that Denis Villeneuve is slowing down. The third installment, Dune: Messiah, is already being worked on.
Dune 2 continues to reach new box office heights, becoming the biggest movie of 2024 with basically no competition. The Dune series by Villeneuve is set to be a trilogy and thanks to a recent report by Deadline, it's been revealed that the filmmaker is already hard at work on the third and final film of the series.
Dune: Messiah doesn't have an official release date yet, but it seems that fans of the series might not have to wait too long for the conclusion of the story – of course you can also always get your own conclusion by simply reading the Dune books by Frank Herbert .
Dune: Messiah Is Already In The Works
Recently, Deadline reported that Denis Villeneuve is in line to turn Annie Jacobsen's nonfiction book Nuclear War: A Scenario into a film. In the book, Jacobsen asked what would happen in the event of nuclear war. Through various interviews with both military and civilian experts, she created a piece on a scary, yet all too palpable potential reality.
Before Villeneuve could get to work on Nuclear War: A Scenario he will have to complete the Dune trilogy though, and it's been reported that the third movie is already in development. Villeneuve isn't slowing down to enjoy the success of his most recent film, it seems.
Of course, a movie of the magnitude that is Dune: Messiah will take time to make and complete, so fans should be patient, because it'll likely be another few years until the third Dune movie hits the big screen. Hopefully the hype of Dune 2 is able to last until then.
