It might not be Halloween just yet, but let's be honest, as soon as September is here, it's autumn in everyone's mind, and then it's not long before we can start carving out pumpkins. Therefore, we want to show you guys the best horror movies on Amazon Prime.
Spooky season is right around the corner, so we don't want to leave you hanging. We will provide you with some of the best scares you can find on Amazon Prime. So here our list:
Tremors
Let's start out with a classic. Tremors is an old school horror flick, starring Kevin Bacon. It came out in 1990 and manages to create some well written, down to earth characters with great dynamics.

But what would a creature-feature horror movie be without its iconic monsters. In Tremors, this role is being fulfilled by the memorable Graboids. These big ass earth worms with their creepy mouths are made with some of the best special effects since "The Thing".
Even though the movie wasn't a big success at release, it eventually developed a strong cult following over the years. If you like older movies, you should definitely check it out!
IT (1 + 2)
Boy oh boy, the clown is back in town, and it's a frightening experience. This gotta be the best King adaptation to date. I saw IT in theaters and enjoyed/hated every second of it. Both movies are crazy good at setting the tone of the story and building a heavy, creepy atmosphere.
Even though I would say the first is a bit better, the second is still awesome and definitely worth a watch. I have seen both of them multiple times and still love to show it to people because it scares the sh*t out of them.
Hereditary
Well, this brings back some memories. I watched it with a friend and had her roommate abruptly open the door during one of the scariest scenes in the movie! This probably left a permanent scar in my mind, but even without the real-life jump scare, I would recommend it to every horror fan.
Hereditary is an unsettling but slow burning, non cliché movie, that is a treat for everyone bored by the classic horror formula. Even though in the end it gets a little predictable, it is a well acted story that draws you in. If you liked The Witch, you're definitely going to love Hereditary!
Conjuring (1+2)
These movies made me hate jump scares! It tells a lot that the first movie got rated R, just because it was so damn scary. And yeah, both movies made me jump up in my seat a couple of times. The tension is just nuts, accompanied by more jump scares than a bunch of faulty pregnancy tests, maybe a little too many, especially the second one.
It's rare that we get a good sequel, but for horror movies, it is especially rare, and James Wan just delivers, man! The Conjuring 2 improves on pretty much every aspect of the first movie and actually made me feel like my own house was haunted. I didn't sleep for weeks... help!
The Babadook
The Babadook is the answer to the question of what would happen if we combined the tropes of German expressionism, like Nosferatu, with the modern trend of horror, like the Slender Man. Nah, just kidding, I'm not a film student, and you're not here for a movie analysis.
All you need to know is, that The Babadook is a psychological horror that makes you question if all that is happening is real, or just a manic episode. Wait, is that what's happening...? I guess you'll have to see for yourself, it's kinda ambiguous.
It is a very theatrical movie, with weird artistic effects that make the whole thing seem surreal and build tension. There is a strange uneasiness throughout the whole movie that puts you on the edge of your seat. I can definitely recommend The Babadook to everybody that likes movies with a heavy atmosphere that doesn't rely on jump scares.
