The Witcher keeps getting worse and Stranger Things is to blame? How did that happen?
Stranger Things Season 4 has been a wild success for Netflix and looks like The Witcher Season 3 is taking a page out of their book, changing things up drastically.
What do Stranger Things and The Witcher have in common? Well, they're both Netflix originals, but that's not the point. What they have in common, or will have in common, is that both Stranger Things Season 4 and The Witcher Season 3 were/will release in two parts.
This change will be the biggest change to the show, right next to the departure of Henry Cavill, something fans still haven't fully recovered from.
The Witcher Season 3: Producers Take Inspiration From Stranger Things
In an interview with Collider the producers of The Witcher, Steve Gaub and Tomek, explained their reason for splitting up the third season.
Fortunately, Stranger Things came out whilst we were in production, and they did a season split. That was very compelling to us, because you don't get to revel in a midseason cliffhanger on a streaming series that's all put out at once, and you kind of want the fans to have that experience. So, for us, it was more about deciding which episode to break on. Netflix was totally on board with it, and I think it'll be fun for our fans because it gets to spread out the experience a little bit more and give us a full Witcher summer.
For both Netflix, and for the producers of the show, this is a great opportunity to get two releases while only having to produce one show. For the viewers, it is a little less compelling as they can't just binge through the show like they're used to.
To be fair, fans won't have to wait that long, as the second part will release just one month after the first one. Still, this might be the start of a new era on Netflix, with two part releases becoming the norm for their big titles like The Witcher, Stranger things or Arcane.
If you got into The Witcher because of the games, you should definitely check out this new project:
