Final Fantasy was one of the most anticipated games in recent years. Fans all around the world were hyped for the newest addition to the popular gaming franchise. Now, a week after its release, publisher Square Enix has announced the selling numbers. And, weirdly, they aren't as good as Final Fantasy 15. Here's why.

Final Fantasy 16: Number of Sales Revealed

Today, the Twitter site of Final Fantasy 16 published the first number of sales. The number is high, but lower than Final Fantasy games in the past. Especially compared to the numbers of Final Fantasy 15.

To be precise, FF16 sold 3 million copies in the first few days of release, where FF15 sold 5 million.

"We’re delighted to announce we’ve shipped and digitally sold 3 million copies of Final Fantasy XVI on PlayStation 5. Thank you for your support!"

This "low" number is easy to explain. Since Final Fantasy 16 is a PlayStation exclusive title, there are simply a lot of customers who can't buy the game. So 3 million sold copies is still a good result for Final Fantasy 16 and Square Enix. Meanwhile, Final Fantasy 15 was available on both PlayStation and Xbox back in 2016. Which begs the question, did Square Enix shoot themselves in the foot by making the game exclusive?

The numbers for Final Fantasy 16 might significantly increase if the PC version actually does come one day, but who knows.
