Hyrule is gigantic in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and to travel across it can take a lot of time by just walking. Of course, you can build some Zonai constructions to cruise, but those are limited to the parts you can find or get from one of the dispenser. There is one true way old time Zelda fans still like to experience for travelling, and that is a trusty horse.

So, how do you get a horse in Tears of the Kingdom? It is pretty simple. Just search for nice wide green plains, and you will soon spot some nice steeds to pick from. But sadly you can't just walk up to them, as they are free and wild horses.
Sneak up behind them by crouching and get on them. Then you need to spam the L-button to tame it. This will cost a different amount of stamina depending on the horse. So don't despair if you run out of it. Either use some stamina recovery medicine or food, or just take a different horse.
Now, when you sit on your horse it will carry you around, but only until it despawns. If you want to use it permanently, you need to go to one of the stables all over the world and register it. The first time they do it for free and every new horse costs 20 rupees.
