We first heard rumors about a standalone Far Cry multiplayer game back in January 2023. At the time, those leaks suggested the Far Cry multiplayer game was being referred to internally as "Project Maverick", and that it was set in the Alaskan wilderness. Now, the same source who started the original rumor, InsiderGaming, have added further details, and are claiming that it will be some kind of extraction shooter.

New Far Cry Multiplayer Game "Project Maverick" Is An Extraction Shooter

InsiderGaming just released new details about Project Maverick (which will no doubt be called something fancier on release, like "Far Cry Survival" or something in that vein). They are claiming that this Far Cry multiplayer game will be released in April 2024, and that it will be a multiplayer extraction shooter. They were also able to provide the following new gameplay details:

  • The fictional Alaskan setting will be called Alashnica.
  • As an extraction shooter, survival mechanics will be absolutely central, and so far the game includes the following:
    • Animals can be killed for leather to make gear.
    • Chemicals can be found and used to make gadgets.
    • Plants can be harvested to synthesize medical supplies.
    • Weapon parts collected and used to make/repair/upgrade weapons.
  • Players will have "Hideouts", which can be used to safely store resources.
  • This is not just a PVP experience, and there will be some opportunity for players to work cooperatively.
  • Maverick is the name of a high-risk mode within the game, in which permadeath is enabled and players lose everything if they die.

In other words, the Far Cry multiplayer game is going to contain everything you would expect from an extraction shooter that uses survival mechanics. And if it really is released as soon as April 2024, we expect official confirmation of these details soon.

Can We Trust This Information?

We consider InsiderGaming to be trustworthy. Tom Henderson, the leaker and reporter who runs the site, has proven himself to have legitimate sources on many occasions in the past. Just this year, for instance, he predicted the release of the new PSP, the PlayStation Portal as well as the release of the PS5 slim.

It should be noted that Tom Henderson, and by extension InsiderGaming, haven't always been accurate with their leaks. For example, in December 2021, Henderson claimed that Rockstar were planning to reveal Bully 2 as a surprise during the Game Awards. That didn't happen, but he still chose to double down on the rumor a few weeks later in February 2022, insisting that something was happening with Bully. Again, nothing happened. We are now almost in 2024, and we still haven't even received proof that Bully 2 exists.

But while Tom Henderson and InsiderGaming might not have a perfect record, we still think that on the balance of probability we can trust them with most claims. And so we think these claims about the Far Cry multiplayer standalone game are probably true.
