If you want a very accurate depiction of Middle-Earth and the world of the Lord of the Rings, then this is going to be the game you'll want to play.
Back in 2014, Weta Workshop, a New Zealand based prop company, created their ownn game development studio. Weta Workshop is known for their incredible prop work on the Lord of the Rings series and well now it seems like they're further expanding on the world of Middle-Earth by developing their own game.
It was only last November that Weta Worshop announced that they were working on a game relating to a major IP and well... we're pretty sure that this is it because it doesn't get much bigger than Middle-Earth and the Lord of the Rings, right? Come on, the hype for this IP is insane with the upcoming Amazon Prime show, right?
What We Know About the Middle-Earth Game
There isn't much we know about the game right now. Private Division, a publisher we know for games like Hades and The Outer Worlds, sent out a Tweet revealing that they were working with Weta Workshop. In the tweet they state that they're working on a game set in the literary Middle-Earth universe of J.R.R Tolkien.
So, this means that the game is going to be set in Middle-Earth, but it doesn't have to mean that it's going to be all about the story of the Lord of the Rings or any other Tolkien books for that matter. They will take the world we know and love and make something spectacular out of it.

In a statement by Private Division and Weta Workshop, Amie Wolken, head of Interactive at Weta Workshop had this to say about the upcoming game:
It’s a privilege to create a new game set in Middle-earth, especially one that’s so different from what fans have played previously. As fans ourselves, we’re excited for gamers to explore Middle-earth in a way they never have before, and introduce new fans to the magic of The Lord of the Rings
Potential Release Date for Middle-Earth Game
There is no official release date yet. In the above named statement, it is stated that the game is currently in early development and that the game should be released around 2024. So, if you got hyped reading about this, then calm down for now you'll have to wait a little longer.
Until then, make sure to play the upcoming game featuring Gollum, or just sit back, relax and turn on your television to stream the new Lord of the Rings series on Amazon Prime. Until 2024 you can still get your Middle-Earth fix, don't worry.
