Will the new PS5 not be a slim after all? A newly published patent is more likely to indicate a different innovation. Here you will find all information about the upcoming version PS5.2.
Luckily, the PS5 is now easier to get, but it's still a pretty big boy that takes up a lot of space. I mean, the PlayStation 5 is really huge. According to rumors on the Internet, the current PS5 will soon get a new version. And it doesn't really seem to be the much-awaited, slimmed-down version.
PS5.2 Probably Comes With An Optional External Disc Drive
Sony is trying to reduce weight and size in all of their PS consoles, which has so far resulted in the B and C chassis. The rumors that Sony is developing an external removable drive have now been confirmed with the publication of the PS5.2 version patent.
A leak from January also suggested that the new PS5 version would not receive any major hardware updates. We have not yet received any further information here. In terms of performance, we shouldn't expect any new top performances.
A small update here:- Doesn't seem like there are any major hardware changes from the original console.- Disc Drive likely won't be compatible with the current digital versionhttps://t.co/2rzlDrjYAb

With the exclusive production of the PS5.2, Sony may also want to reduce the weight and size of the PS5 to save on shipping costs. But that is of secondary importance. More notable is the minimization of production costs by committing to a version of the PS5 that can be fitted with or without an external disc drive, depending on customer's preference.
It remains unclear to what extent the drive can be rearranged and installed in the PS5.2 version. The optional assembly advertised in the leaks could just as easily indicate that the drive needs to be factory-fitted. Still, replacing and repairing the external drive in case of damage or wear and tear would be much easier and therefore less expensive.Small downer: The new external drive is only compatible with the new version. That means owners of a digital edition of the PS5 will not be able to add an external disc drive to their version.
So in summary, we probably won't be getting a PS5 Pro or PS5 Slim in 2023, just a look-modified version whose biggest innovation will be the external disc drive.
