While traversing through the galaxy, there are some choices you need to make, that don't have any lasting consequences and almost seem trivial. But there are others that will last for the eternity, or rather the whole playthrough...
With the "A High Price To Pay" story mission, we have one on our hand that will have lasting and permanent consequences for everyone.
Please be reminded, this article contains spoilers for Starfield. Especially for the content later on in the campaign!
Starfield: Time To Decide To Defend The Lodge Or Go To The Eye
There are two possible ways of dealing with the ordeal at the end of the mission. You can either defend the Lodge, or go to the Eye and rescue your comrades. But the tragic part is: No matter what, you'll lose either Sarah, Sam, Barrett or Andreja during this mission.
Before you choose, make a note which two people are at the Lodge and the Eye. In a cruel twist of fate, the companion who dies will always be the one that you have the strongest relationship with, meaning that you're likely to lose one of your favorite companions.
The good thing is the other one will definitely survive, but this is a tough cookie...
Defend The Lodge
In order to defend the Lodge, you need to fight a few little skirmishes, after those you need to head to the basement and follow the tunnels until you encounter the Hunter several times.
If you defeat him once, you'll be handed over a bonus weapon (Unrestrained Vengeance) later on, but doing so multiple times isn't worth the effort, as you most likely will hit some civilians and rack up your bounty by accident.
Ultimately, you'll reach your ship and talk to the Hunter again. After this event, make your way to the Eye and find one of your beloved companions dead on the ground.
Defend The Eye
If you choose to go to the Eye you need to be quick on your feet, as an invisible timer is running against you and staying too long in the Lodge will make the Hunter appear, and you'll ultimately be forced to stay at the Lodge.
Leave the Lodge and fast travel to the Eye. You'll find everyone in a critical state, but not in danger. Now it's time to return to the Lodge, and you'll find one of your beloved characters dead on the ground, but there is no time to mourn as you need to escape through the basement much like if you stayed at the Lodge.
The belongings from the dead comrade will be stuffed in a chest down in the basement from the Lodge. Once you have to return there, you can grab them and move on.
That's all you need to know about defending the Lodge or going to the Eye in Starfield! Good luck with whichever choice you're taking.
