The undead have awoken in New York City and resources are being scarce, do you have what it takes to survive? This is the question asked to players in The Day Before, an upcoming game from Fntastic and MyTona.
Announced in January 2021, The Day Before is an upcoming survival game that has received unexpected popularity because of its similarities to The Division and The Last of Us. We don’t expect you to know much about this game, as it’s being developed by Fntastic and published by MyTona.
These relatively unknown developers are entering a new marketplace with The Day Before. It will be the first time either company has released a blockbuster game.
Is The Day Before Coming Out In 2023?
Since the pandemic started, developers haven’t wanted to confirm the official release date of their upcoming games. Fortunately, that hasn’t been the approach taken by Fntastic and MyTona. They’ve announced that The Day Before is launching on March 1st, 2023.
For a long time, this game seemed to be exclusive to Steam. But this this has changed now, and The Day Before will also release for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. Only time will tell.
Game Setting, Story, And Everything We Know About The Day Before | All Leaks & Rumors
There hasn’t been an expansive level of information about this upcoming game. However, Fntastic and MyTona have unveiled an exciting announcement trailer filled with gameplay footage. This allowed everyone to understand the environment and setting for The Day Before, which appears to be within a loosely recreated version of New York City.
Similar to other MMOs, there will be PVE and PVP elements to The Day Before. This should provide an expansive and versatile environment that’s constantly changing from the third-person perspective. However, don’t expect this game to be easy. There’s an apparent difficulty that will surprise veteran players of this genre. As such, The Day Before is gaining more popularity among the MMO community than expected.
MyTona and Fntastic have confirmed that exploration will play a massive factor in The Day Before. You’ll be prompted to team up with friends and random players to traverse the open-world environment. Luckily, those adventures aren’t limited to foot-based travel. There will be numerous vehicles to make this open-world environment more accessible and efficient. However, don’t expect these vehicles to perform the same when undead hordes are swarming you. They won’t save you and will sometimes take unexpected damage.
The Day Before is beautiful, as there’s evident favoritism towards realistic graphics. To maximize the visual settings of this upcoming game, we’ll require the strongest chipsets possible. There’s an amazing example within the announcement trailer, as two vehicles are shown travelling a muddy basin with different track marks. This visual fidelity wouldn’t be possible without the inclusion of an Nvidia GTX GeForce 1060.
Vehicles aren’t the exclusive properties in The Day Before that are realistic. Weaponry, stamina, and health are taking a realistic approach as well. You’ll need to consider your stamina and health when traversing the open-world environment while also maintaining your weapons. There could be an unexpected moment where your weapon jams if you don't consider these gameplay factors.
Scavenging is being developed into The Day Before, and it’ll play a prominent role in the gameplay. You’ll need to scavenge various items throughout the open-world environment to maintain your weapons and health. Moreover, these scavenged items can lead to premium resources like watches and comics. These resources can then be pawned for in-game customization items.
Survival features constructed into The Day Before are expanded past scavenging and exploration, as there’s a dynamic weather system that affects your chances of surviving. There could be horrific storms that make travelling impossible, while blizzards can overcome anyone and result in hypothermia. Anyone who doesn’t pay attention to the weather and their local surroundings could find themselves without shelter, resulting in a slow and painful in-game death.
The dynamic weather system can benefit veteran players who have mastered The Day Before. It’s been confirmed that wind and rainstorms dampen the sound of footsteps and make characters harder to see. This would enable players to emphasize their stealth kills and move quickly throughout the environment without being caught. This means weather systems within The Day Before are just as influential as your weapon.
Will There Be Standard Multiplayer Modes In The Day Before?
You shouldn’t expect The Day Before to maintain standard multiplayer options like Team Deathmatch or Battle Royale. Instead, multiplayer gameplay will focus on largescale servers with hundreds of players. That means you’ll be meeting other competitors regularly while also interacting with hordes of the undead.
Think of PUBG Zombies but far more improved; that’s the experience we’ll get with The Day Before.
Is The Day Before Getting Released On The Xbox And PC?
As previously mentioned, The Day Before has exclusively been announced for the PC on Steam. There isn’t any information to suggest that MyTona is publishing The Day Before onto any additional platforms. However, further development time was added to this upcoming game.
It was initially slated for release on June 21st but was postponed to March 1st, 2023. That additional time could be used towards porting The Day Before onto Xbox and PC (Microsoft Store).
Is The Day Before Part Of The Xbox Game Pass?
Unfortunately, there isn’t any way to know if The Day Before will launch onto the Xbox Game Pass. This game isn’t expected to release for another ten months, with exclusive availability on Steam. Everything suggests a low percentage of The Day Before coming to the Xbox Game Pass. However, you never know when things will change.
Game Trailer
The announcement trailer for The Day Before was incredible. Everything was shown with gameplay footage, which showcased an expansive and ominous open world. We’re particularly excited about the evening weather cycles within this game.
Could you imagine fending off undead hordes in Times Square during an evening rainstorm? Now that sounds amazing.

As previously noted, The Day Before utilizes incredible graphics to create a realistic experience. This means features like ray-tracing are being incorporated into this survival-based MMO.
