There are a lot of factors that go into making the 2023 League of Legends World Championship Finals, but did anyone think meeting a K-Pop group was one of those?
The 2023 League of Legends World Championship Finals are set. On November 19, at the Seoul Sky Dome, the LPL's Weibo Gaming will face off against the LCK's T1 in an epic finish.
Both teams are vying for the title of World Champion, a huge portion of the prize pool, as well the chance to have themselves immortalized in the game itself with their very-own World Championship skins. But there was another motivation for T1 support Keria: Meeting the Korean Pop group NewJeans.
LoL Worlds 2023: T1 Support Motivated By Chance Of Meeting NewJeans
The 2023 League of Legends World Championship anthem was sung by one of the hottest South Korean pop acts right now – NewJeans. The group has also been confirmed to perform at the opening ceremony of the Finals, which means they're going to be at official Riot press events beforehand already.
Ahead of the 2023 Worlds semi-finals, T1's support player Ryu "Keria" Min-seok and JDG's bot laner Park "Ruler" Jae-hyuk both stated that they want to go to the finals to be able to meet NewJeans.
Of course, only one of the two could win and in the end T1 and Keria were successful, earning themselves a spot in the finals and a chance to meet NewJeans.
In the post-game interview, after their semi-final win, Keria even stated that he'd been close to buying concert tickets for NewJeans. He even admitted to owning merch of them and wanting to get it signed.
I heard that I will actually be able to see them at the Finals Press Conference. I have my merch and hoodie ready and asked the staff that if I make it to finals, I can get their autographs on my hoodie. So I'm so excited to get my hoodie signed by NewJeans.
What more motivation does one need than their ultimate bias group in K-Pop, right? Right. Keria and T1 will be able to see them live during the opening ceremony in Seoul, as will you if you tune in to watch the League of Legends Finals. Make sure to pick up those watch drops!
