In Dead by Daylight, a player managed to win almost 2000 times in a row. How is that possible?
Winning 2000 times in an online PvP game is usually bordering on impossible. Imagine someone winning 2000 rounds in a row in League of Legends or Call of Duty (without smurfing, of course). But in one game, that's absolutely within the realm of possibility, and that game is Dead by Daylight. Recently, the longest known winstreaks in public matches came to an end.
Dead by Daylight Player Wins 1947 Times In A Row As Blight
Okay, okay, it wasn't quite 2000 wins, but if you win 1947 times, you can also win 2000 times, which doesn't make much of a difference. 2000 just looks nicer on the thumbnail, okay?
To catch you up: Dead by Daylight is an asymmetric PvP game where a single Killer plays against 4 Survivors. The Killer's task is to sacrifice all the Survivors, while the Survivors have to try to escape from the map by repairing generators. On the Killer side, there is a wide selection of characters with their own abilities. The Blight is considered one of the strongest Killers in the game. So strong, in fact, that it's possible to dismantle the entire game with him and make any MMR irrelevant.
The Blight player MomoSeventh managed to win 1947 times in public matches against Survivors until he finally encountered a team that ended his winstreak. But how is it possible to win so often?
The main reasons for this are likely the asymmetric nature of Dead by Daylight, which makes it difficult to balance the game. The strength of the Killers also varies so much that there are simply characters who have many more opportunities to outplay Survivors than others. Survivors, on the other hand, all essentially have the same abilities. Imagine it like a queen, a rook, or a bishop in chess playing against 10 pawns.
Additionally, in DBD, there is no distinction between ranked matches and casual matches. This means that players who play very competitively often encounter players who only play for fun. This makes it much easier for players who are serious about it to advance their win streak.
By the way, not only did the longest winstreak end, but also the second-longest winstreak. Nurse player SupaAlf lost his 1163rd match against Survivors in the same week as MomoSeventh. The Nurse is considered the strongest Killer in DBD by far, which explains why he was able to pull that off.
The two examples prove that truly questionable things are possible in Dead by Daylight. Over the years, the community has debated whether the game is a party game or a competitive game. In the end, it's a hybrid of both. While there are competitive tournaments organized by individuals, experiments like these winstreaks show how difficult it is to balance this game.
Both content creators are already working on the next streaks with other Killers. Let's see if they can beat their records.
