At almost 8 years old, Dark Souls 3 is nearing retirement age for a video game, yet it still captivates players to this day. With its two DLCs, it continued to provide new content for months after release. However, for those who wanted more from the world, there was a drought after Dark Souls, with FromSoftware focusing on Souls-like rhythm game Sekiro and open world RPG Elden Ring.

While Elden Ring stylistically resembles the Souls series, it has no connection to the lore. Therefore, fans of the series took matters into their own hands and created the mod project "Dark Souls Archthrones."

It's been a while since this Dark Souls 3 mod was announced, but now, just in time for the rekindled Elden Ring hype, a playable demo version has now been released.

Dark Souls: Archthrones Demo Is Available Now

The mod introduces players into the prequel story of Dark Souls 3, offering an incredible amount of new content. In the demo, you can take a glimpse into the first of five worlds, which you can enter through a new in-game hub called the "Nexus of Embers," a subtle nod to Demon's Souls, the progenitor of the Souls-like genre.

To be able to play the demo, you, of course, need to own Dark Souls 3 on PC. You can download the necessary files from nexusmods.com and find installation instructions there as well. You also don't need to worry about getting banned by the devs for using the mod because you won't be connected to FromSoft's official servers. Just follow the installation instructions, and you should be fine.

When the full mod will be released hasn't been announced yet, but it will be free and is expected to support multiplayer. For more information, follow the Archthrones account on Twitter and visit their website.
