Baldur's Gate 3 should be familiar to everyone by now, even if you haven't had any contact with the tabletop role-playing games of Dungeons & Dragons. The PC and console RPG became a top seller of last year, ringing in big profits for the license holder, Hasbro. So much so that their CEO promises that the journey for D&D as video game adaptations is far from over.

D&D Licence Holder Hasbro Promises Future Video Games Like Baldur's Gate 3

Baldur's Gate 3 is part of Wizards of the Coast, whose parent company is the game manufacturer Hasbro. Through the contract with Larian Studios, the developer of Baldur's Gate 3, the company has made a significant amount of money. The financial report of 2023 mentions a total of $90 million. Money, which Hasbro can really use at the moment, as their overall revenue has decreased by nearly 15% in 2023.

During the earnings call for the period ending December 31, 2023, Hasbro's Chief Executive Officer Chris Cocks expressed great satisfaction with Baldur's Gate 3's performance and praised Larian Studios' fantastic work on the video game adaptation. He teased further projects that gamers can look forward to.

Baldur's Gate III is just the first of several new video games that will be coming out over the next five to 10 years that I think will continue to power that franchise. And really, I think the three combined, continued innovation on tabletop, powered by D&D Beyond, targeted entertainment, working through partners in an asset-light model, and then great video game content through licensees and through our own internal studios. I think the future is bright for that brand.

As of now, it's not yet clear whether these games will be directly related to Baldur's Gate 3 or simply set in the general D&D universe.

Swen Vincke, CEO of Larian Studios and director of Baldur's Gate 3, hinted in January 2024 that he was already working on the next game. However, what exactly hides behind this is still unknown.

In summary, it is certain that we can look forward to an exciting future full of D&D video game content. How it will look in the end remains a surprise.
