Pax Dei: There Is A Huge, Open-World Medieval Sandbox MMO Coming In Less Than 2 Weeks

People love medieval games. People also love open world sandbox games. And some people love MMOs. Pax Dei combines all of the above and could be the pinnacle of "be who you want to be" - if it works out.

Set in a medieval-inspired world powered by Unreal Engine 5, Pax Dei gives you the freedom to shape your own destiny. Whether you choose to be a humble tailor in a cozy village, an architect building grand castles for your clan, or a brave knight defending your barony's honor, the possibilities are almost endless.

Create Your Legacy In Pax Dei

Unlike traditional co-op experiences, Pax Dei immerses you in a world teeming with fellow adventurers. Form alliances in clans or engage in fierce PvP battles. The introduction of concepts such as knights, kingdoms, and baronies over the course of the game will be the foundation of a feudal hierarchy.

Players will be able to pledge allegiance to knights who will serve as their loyal soldiers in PvP skirmishes. These knights, in turn, can band together to form baronies and build fortifications outside the PvE heartlands. This will set the stage for epic wars and sieges.

From Ordinary Villager To Admired Pope in a Player-Driven World

The power of Pax Dei extends beyond martial prowess and is intertwined with the influence of the clergy. A player-driven system of chapels, churches, and a hierarchical structure allows you to adopt religious doctrine. By establishing parishes similar to baronies, players can rise through the ranks from Bishop to Cardinal, and even aspire to the esteemed position of Pope.

While the basic idea behind the game sounds pretty amazing to me, I'm excited to see how it will work out. Since there will be no NPCs, all the momentum and pacing of the game will have to be carried by the players, with no way for the studio to dictate it. But if there is a way for the cosmos to run, it could be a cornerstone in MMOs, and even appeal to players who do not normally play them.

In its current state, the game feels more like a multiplayer survival title, in which you must scavenge for resources, build the structures necessary to survive, and evolve from a novice survivor to a tough, armored warrior. As Pax Dei begins its journey through Early Access, which will begin on June 18th, the true test of its strength lies ahead.
