Counter-Strike 2's Most Expensive Skin Sold To Anonymous Buyer For The Price Of A Mansion

What would you do if you had 1 million dollars? Buy a house or your dream car? Go on vacation for a few months? Or spend the entire sum on a colorful weapon skin in a video game?

An anonymous buyer has just spent $1 million on Counter-Strike 2's most expensive skin. In January 2024, the first-ever pattern 661 AK-47 Case Hardened in StatTrak Factory New was confirmed. Initially valued at $1.5 million, it was speculated to potentially reach $2 million, making it the priciest item in Counter-Strike history.

Record-Breaking Sale Of Counter-Strike 2's Rarest Skin

The high value of the 661 Case Hardened pattern is due to its rarity and desirability, especially in Factory New and StatTrak form. With approximately 8,500 different patterns for the Case Hardened skin, obtaining the 661 pattern requires extreme luck.

Now, nearly six months after its discovery, the skin has been sold for an enormous sum. The sale was facilitated by prominent CS2 skin collectors, Sam “roflm0nster” Alexander and Oliver “zipel” Behrensdorff, who announced the transaction online.

The $1 Million AK-47: A New Milestone In Virtual Goods Trading

While the buyer's identity and the exact amount paid remain undisclosed, roflm0nster revealed that “$1 million offers were rejected multiple times, indicating the skin cost at least $1 million, making it the most expensive gun skin ever sold.If the final price exceeds $1.5 million, it would surpass the Case Hardened Karambit in Factory New with the 387 pattern as the most expensive item in Counter-Strike. The knife was purchased in 2016 for just over $100,000, and an offer of €1.2 million ($1.5 million) was rejected in 2021.

Sure, the value of digital goods is increasing exponentially - but let's face it: Would you spend that kind of money on a few pixels in a shooter?
