The head of Nintendo has now publically denied rumors that the Switch 2 was shown in secret presentations during Gamescom 2023.
There have been hundreds of rumors surrounding the much-anticipated Switch 2. But, apparently, many of them are nonsense.
The Nintendo President just went on record to refute reports from earlier this year that claimed the Switch 2 was being shown off in secret meetings during Gamescom.
Nintendo President Claims Reports Of Switch 2 At Gamescom Were False
According to multiple reports quoting anonymous sources, Nintendo were holding secret meetings to show off the Switch 2 with select journalists during Gamescom. VGC claimed that the tech demo was running thanks to Nvidia’s DLSS technology, while Universo Nintendo claimed that the console had a whopping RAM capacity of 12 GB.
We got super-excited like the rest of the world, but then on December 7 the President of Nintendo ruined it all by revealing the truth: There was no secret meeting at Gamescom. It was, at least according to Nintendo, a lie.
As first reported by Mainichi Shimbun (a major Japanese newspaper), the current Nintendo President denied the Gamescom rumors in a quarterly earnings call with investors:
President Furukawa pointed out, ``Rumors are circulating mainly on the Internet as if they were public information, but they are inaccurate.'' He cited reports that Nintendo demonstrated a new model at an overseas event in summer 2023, denying them as ``untrue.'' .
But even if the Gamescom meetings never actually happened, we don't think you should be any less excited about the next console from Nintendo. They just knocked it out of the park with Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and clearly they know what they're doing.
Nintendo has not officially confirmed the Switch 2 yet. However, reports suggest that it will be once again a handheld/home device hybrid and that it is set to arrive in late-2024.
