The next generation of MCU heroes is on its way, and Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, could quite possibly get a season 2 after proving herself further in The Marvels. Actress Iman Vellani thinks it could be up to fans if there's a sequel for Ms. Marvel.
Granted, Ms. Marvel wasn't Marvel's best debut of a superhero show ever in terms of viewership numbers and The Marvels also kind of fell short at the box office – stellar performances by Iman Vellani, Brie Larson and Teyonah Parris didn't make up for the odds the movie had to face.
The underperformance of The Marvels at the box office might impact whether Disney decides to give Ms. Marvel another shot or not – which would be a shame because quite frankly, the movie doesn't deserve the hate it gets. We'll get into that in a bit!
Ms. Marvel Season 2: Fans Could Decide Kamala's Future
In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Vellani couldn't share all too much about a possible second season for Ms. Marvel – because there isn't much to share. Season 2 has not been greenlit yet and chances are Ms. Marvel's future is directly linked to the (rather disappointing) performance of The Marvels.
Vellani still remains optimistic and open to a possible sequel:
I am patient, and honestly, I hope all the love that Kamala is getting from this movie inspires people to be more vocal about wanting a season 2. I would absolutely love to continue this story, and Kamala and her entire community has so much story left to tell.
With the revelation at the end of Ms. Marvel about her being a mutant (which is actually different in the comics, just fyi!), there's a whole lot of opportunities where Marvel could take Kamala in the future: meet the other mutants, for example. She could meet the X-Men! Let her meet Wolverine!
Further fleshing out her character in a potential second season could also make up for the, in parts, unjustified hate she (and the whole girl gang) got in The Marvels. Even before the movie came out, people were sure it was going to suck. And yes, The Marvels didn't write cinematic history, but it doesn't deserve the hate it gets, either.
That makes it more important than ever for fans, and let's quote Ms. Marvel Iman Vellani herself here, "to be more vocal about wanting a season 2" to make up for the rather disappointing finances. The set-up for a second season is there and Kamala's story is far from over, so it seems to be just a question of the demand if Ms. Marvel gets a second season or not.
