Outer Range gears up for season 2 on Prime Video and the wait is nearly over. We've got all the info for you, including the possible release date, the cast, plot and any other news you could possibly ask for.
Outer Range and the Abbotts return to Prime Video! Season 2 is nearly there to finally unravel the mystery of the void. The first season left off with a handful of cliffhangers to be addressed – in May, we'll finally get some answers.
Combining good old cowboys with supernatural mysteries absolutely hits the sweet spot, making Outer Range basically the secret love child of Yellowstone and Stranger Things. Sounds like it shouldn't work, but it kinda does – that's why a second season is the correct call!
Outer Range Season 2 | Release Date
While there's no trailer to share just yet, we finally got the release date for Outer Range season 2: May 16.
Season 2 of Outer Range has been confirmed in October 2022 and while filming has already started back in April 2023, there was one major issue the production had to face: the strike that basically paralyzed Hollywood in 2023.
Outer Range Season 2 | Returning Cast
While news have been kinda sparse, there haven't been any announcements about a recast of already (more or less) beloved characters, so don't expect any surprises for season 2 of Outer Range. Josh Brolin obviously returns as Royal Abbott with Lili Taylor as his wife Cecilia.
While the fate of Perry Abbott (played by Tom Pelphrey) is a mystery for now, chances are we'll see him return in one form or another and Lewis Pullman will reprise his role as Rhett, basically completing the Abbott family – if we don't count Imogen Poots as Autumn or an older Amy, with her younger version beautifully portrayed by Olive Abercrombie.
The Tillerson clan returns as well, with Shaun Sipos as Luke, Noah Reid as Billy, Deirdre O'Connell as Patricia and Will Patton as Wayne. Matt Lauria, though, probably won't return as Trevor – not in a way that matters, anyway.
The supporting cast will most likely also return like we've seen them last, including Tamar Podemski as Sheriff Joy Hawk, Matthew Maher as Deputy Matt and, of course, Isabel Arraiza as Maria Olivares.
Outer Range Season 2 | Plot & Upcoming Changes
While the cast stays mostly the same, there are a few changes behind the scenes that could influence the direction of the plot. At least, that's what lead actor Josh Brolin teased on his Instagram (naked, I might add):
Prepping for a scene for "Outer Range" Season 2. We are taking things in a different direction now. It's a shifting world and we have to be sensitive to all. Power of example is everything, so examples we are.
Different direction, you say? Could that have anything to do with creator Brian Watkins passing the torch on to Charles Murray? While Watkins will still be involved with Outer Range as executive producer, the task of being the showrunner goes to Murray (who has proven with Sons of Anarchy and the animated Star Wars shows that he knows what he's doing).
One thing's for sure, though: season 2 has lots and lots of plots to resolve. Cecilia may lose the ranch if Perry doesn't come back from wherever the hell he's at right now, the whole Amy-Autumn situation is a whole mindf*ck on its own and Royal has basically three seasons worth of explaining to do.
So, the Abbotts have a whole lot on their plate for the upcoming second season, starting off on May 16.
