A recent leak hints at a possible release window for the Nintendo Switch 2, in line with previously leaked information. Let's take a look at what we currently know about the release date and pricing of the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2.
The Nintendo Switch was released in 2017, so it isn't exactly up to date anymore. Especially if compared to the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S, the Switch is in desperate need of a technical upgrade. And by technical upgrade, we mean even more than just the OLED version. Lucky for us, Nintendo is already hard at work on the Nintendo Switch 2 and thanks to a well-known leaker we also got a rumored release date and price back in October 2023.
Now, a company named Ai Shark (formerly known as GameShark) mentioned the Nintendo Switch 2 in one of their press releases and the mentioned release window does match the old leaked release date.
Nintendo Switch 2 Release: AI Leak Announces September
According to the first leak in October 2023, the Nintendo Switch 2 is supposed to be released on September 24, 2024 with a fallback release date on November 3. Furthermore, the leaker claimed that there will be two different versions of the Nintendo Switch 2, a digital-only version for $400 and a standard edition for $449.
The new press release by Ai Shark mentions a release in "September 2024" which perfectly matches the first leak.
Admittedly, this all sounds pretty great, but can we trust the information? Don't worry, here is a quick rundown to answer that question for you. The source of the first leak is a leaker named SoldierDelta, who shared the above information about the Nintendo Switch 2 on a Discord server belonging to The Snitch.
The Snitch has a great track record with credible leaks to their name, which also gives the latest Switch 2 leaks at least some credibility. This credibility is further strengthened by the second leak, which comes from Ai Shark. The company formerly known as GameShark announced in a press release that they will re-launch their brand in September 2024 with the following sentence:
"The official launch is planned to coincide with the Nintendo Switch 2 in September 2024."
This sounds very promising, however, we can't verify where Ai Shark got this info from and according to Jason Schreier, the release window could very well be just a good guess.
Since Nintendo hasn't officially announced any details about the Nintendo Switch 2 so far, every leak should be taken with a grain of salt. But since this is already the second source, mentioning a release in September 2024, there has to be something to it, right?
Nintendo Switch 2 Price: Over $100 More Than The OLED?
Concerning the prices, the Switch 2 will apparently be about $100 more expensive than the current OLED model , at least if you opt for the standard edition. The digital-only edition will still cost you about 50 bucks more. However, that shouldn't be surprising if you take into account that even the PS5 and Xbox Series already raised their price once.
Let's just hope the technical upgrades will be worth the money...
Maybe Nintendo will finally tell us more about the Switch 2 during their upcoming Nintendo Direct in February.
