Indiana Jones is one of the most anticipated Xbox games. In 2021, the game was announced for the first time, and after three long years, the time has finally come: MachineGames, the developers of the game, have released details about the game and a gameplay trailer at the Xbox Showcase 2024.

The game was developed in collaboration between LucasFilm and MachineGames, with the support of Bethesda’s Todd Howard as executive producer, and is intended as an original, standalone game that focuses on the peak of Indiana Jones' adventurer’s career. Therefore, Indiana Jones won’t be an elderly man like in the latest film with Harrison Ford. But let's take a closer look at the game.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle: Release Date

Since the debut of Indiana Jones 5 on June 30, 2023, the hype for the game has been steadily growing, although no release date had been disclosed until then. However, during the Showcase, the game's launch was officially revealed for December 2024. Given the promising gameplay showcased in the trailer, we can also assume that it probably won't be delayed. So, dust off your whips and start honing those skills!

Game Setting, Story, And Everything We Know About Indiana Jones So Far

Setting

The game will take place in the period between the films Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade, roughly around 1937. It will start at the iconic Marshall College, an American university and liberal arts college in Bedford, Connecticut, where Jones works as a professor of archaeology.

As usual for Jones, we'll then become embroiled in a new mystery and embark on a grand journey. Along the way, we'll encounter fascinating landmarks like the pyramids of Egypt and the Vatican City in Rome.

Story

As hinted by the setting, the story will revolve around "one of history's greatest mysteries." During your journey, sinister forces will roam the globe in search of an ancient power connected to the Great Circle.

In the story, you'll forge alliances with old acquaintances, meet new faces, and of course, confront familiar foes in the classic Indiana Jones style, set between "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "The Last Crusade."

The adventure kicks off with a theft at Marshall College, prompting Indy to search for the artifact he once deemed unimportant before getting entangled in the type of action we're accustomed to.

Further details about the story have not been released yet, but we can't wait to learn more!

Gameplay

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle promises a wealth of immersive action, intriguing puzzles, and, of course, plenty of Nazis, as one would expect from a studio that developed Wolfenstein, among other titles. The game is an action-adventure played from a first-person perspective, allowing you to literally wield your whip to distract, disarm, and attack enemies. Is there anything better than that?

However, for a better gameplay experience, the perspective occasionally switches to third-person. This allows you, for example, to watch Jones as he climbs buildings or crosses certain areas with his whip.

Is Indiana Jones Exclusive To The Xbox Series X And PC?

Bethesda Game Studios was purchased by Microsoft in 2020, with the acquisition being finalized on March 9th, 2021.

Since the completion of this acquisition, Bethesda's previous games have been exclusive to the Xbox Series X/S and PC. Indiana Jones follows this example. While Microsoft has announced plans to release some games for the PS5, Indiana Jones is not included in that list.

Is Indiana Jones Part Of The Game Pass On Xbox?

Microsoft and Bethesda have confirmed that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is an Xbox Series X/S exclusive, with additional support for the PC.

We’re calling this the Game Pass Wars, and Xbox is winning right now. PlayStation will need to massively upgrade their PS+ Extra and Premium subscriptions if they’re to compete against Microsoft. The reality is that Bethesda is launching the following games for free as day-one exclusives to Xbox.

Will PlayStation be able to compete? We’re starting to wonder.

Game Trailer

At the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2024, the long-awaited gameplay trailer was finally revealed. There, we get a glimpse of the story and the incredibly stunning graphics! But see for yourself:

It's fascinating to see how faithfully Jones has been portrayed. This only increases the excitement for the game even more.

Game System Requirements

Similar to Elder Scrolls VI, we’re incapable of providing a reliable account of game system requirements for Indiana Jones. Either way, everyone will need to upgrade their CPUs and GPUs to experience Bethesda’s Indiana Jones at its highest quality.
