Hollow Knight Silksong: 3 Must-Have Features For The Sequel

Hollow Knight: Silksong is (hopefully) coming soon, and we've wondered what the new metroidvania actually can do better than its predecessor.

It has been a while since Hollow Knight celebrated its great success. The beautifully designed and challenging metroidvania captivated fans of the genre in 2017. In 2019, the eagerly awaited sequel Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced, but it quickly went quiet around the Hollow Knight successor.

To this day, it is not clear when exactly the game will actually be released. Speculations suggest it might be sometime in 2024 and to pass the time until then, we've thought about what Silksong could actually do better than Hollow Knight, considering it is often regarded as an already perfect game. Here is what our brain cells could think of.

1. Comprehensive Difficulty Settings

Yeah, I know what you're thinking. Difficulty settings? If you're not tough enough to get through the game, just leave it be! But, hear me out: I'm totally with you that facing challenges is part of certain genres, and metroidvanias belong in that category. However, difficulty settings add to a game without taking anything away.

How nice would it be if even more people could get into the groove of Hollow Knight, potentially leading to more content for all of us? And consider it from the other side: You could also make the game even more challenging for yourself! What if you could precisely adjust the damage output of enemies or make puzzle passages easier? This way, everyone could extract the maximum enjoyment from this masterpiece.

2. Screenshot Markers To Help You Backtrack

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown introduced this feature and showed how great it is. With the help of memory shards, you can take screenshots that are immediately marked on your map, allowing you to always know where you want to return. In our opinion, this feature makes a lot of sense for metroidvanias, where backtracking is crucial.

While Hollow Knight allowed you to set small markers, they were very limited and provided little information about what exactly you marked. The game shone with its diverse areas, and you wouldn't want to forget anything; a screenshot mechanic like this one could address that.

3. A Larger Selection Of Weapons

In Hollow Knight, there were plenty of genre-typical abilities that facilitated both the combat against various creepy crawlies and the movement through the tunnels and alleys of Hollownest. What could add a bit more flexibility to the game would be a selection of weapons.

This could include various melee, as well as ranged weapons. How nice would it be for Hornet to roam around with a Silk harpoon? You could find your own playstyle, depending on whether you prefer fast-paced combat or hitting hard.

Honorable Mention: The Ability To Bow

We want to express our reverence in the Hollow Knight successor and have the opportunity to bow. A little bit of roleplay never hurts any game.

What do you think, could make Hollow Knight: Silksong an even better game than the first one? Or do you think it was perfect as it was? Share your opinion with us in the comments!
